Membership meeting

The History About the SL95 Class
Time: Wednesday September 27th, 2000 at 6:15 pm.
Place: Departure from Vognhall 5 to Norwegian Tele Museum.
There will be a joint transport to the Tele Museum where we borrow the big screen for a video and slide evening. On the scedule is Kåge Gimtell's video about how the SL95 class was made. Kåge Gimtell is working for Sweden's State Television and is very interested in public transport and tramcars. Many will probably remember his series about modern light rail on Swedish Television some years ago.

Afterward everyone may show their pictures. Håkon Kinck Gaarder will show slides and video from his travel to Portugal this summer.

The transport will be in one of our buses. Which depends on how many that show up.

Lokaltrafikk delayed

Also the last edition of Lokaltrafikk is unfortunately late. The reason is that the editorial staff have a lot of other things to do, not to mention their civil work.

However the Høka Book is being printed, and this will be sent out to everybody who have preordered it quite soon. And if the book is coming late, it's coming very well! The extra production time has risen the quality of the book!

Much activity in LTF

Although the magazine is late, there is much acitivity in the association! The cortege on May 13th was very successful, although the cooperation with Oslo 1000 years wasn't as good as we expected. However this struck AS Oslo Sporveier mostly, and not us directly.

On arrival at Gamlebyen, the tramcars were presented by Hans Andreas Fristad. After that, there were speaches by transport minister Terje Moe Gustavsen, director Trond Bjørgan in AS Oslo Sporveier, transport councillor Merete Agerbak Jensen and LTF's chairman, Lars Fredrik Andersen.

Much work
The week before the cortege, a lot of work was done, both techinally on the vehicles and administratively. Around ten people worked almost all day around the last fourteen days, while the cortege day itself required the effort from almost 70 people.

Perfect collaboration
The winding up of the cortege went nearly perfectly. But it's worth mentioning that AS Oslo Sporveier had problems to cope with the ordinary service, also because of the enormous amoung of people visiting the arrangement. The disposition at Majorstuen went well, and almost everything were fixed before the guests began to show up. Most of the four-wheel tramcars were in Vognhall 5, while the bogie tramcars came from Grefsen and Avløs depots. The buses came from Alnabru, Skøyen, Vognhall 5 and Kjul.

Breakdown...
Unfortunately, the articulated bus 717 broke down during the empty transport from Skøyen to Majorstuen. A hose with cooling water sprang a leak, and the bus was placed at the Shell petrol station in Suhm's Street. It stood here most of the day. The bus was repaired by Volvo Action Service and returned in the first place to Skøyen before it went to Nesodden on the night before Monday.

Repaired tramcars
All the tramcars went through inspection before the cortege. In addition, 307 and 347 was almost completed, while the work on 32 was continued so far that it could be opened for the public. More about what was done with the tramcars will be presented in the annual report.

Documentation
In addition to this, as mentioned, a lot of administrative work was done, not only with the practical aspects of the arrangement, contact with external people etc., recruitment of personnel etc., but hazard analyses were also made for the arrangement and for the tramcars.

AS Oslo Sporveier want to map all aspects of the security with tramcar operation. That is why a new security staff has been formed, and why hazard analyses are made of all aspects of tramcar operation.

In collaboration with Norwegian Veritas, hazard analyses were made for both the arrangement and the different tramcar classes. The analysis mapped different phenomenons what could cause risks, and the conclusion was that the hazard level is acceptable. However, this is a bit difficult to settle because AS Oslo Sporveier hasn't made any analyses neither of their own daily service nor the tram classes they use in the service. Therefore the first tramcar to be analysed, was the horse tramcar, and that has to be called a historic clue!

Operation of old tramcars

Therefore the work on operation of old tramcars goes on. A wish from the organizer was to exhibit the horse tramcar on Stortorvet during the Stortorvet Days. This wasn't possible to do because the tramway division couldn't accept the present hazard analyses for this use of the tramcar.

However, AS Oslo Sporveier's Market Staff want to celebrate October 6th with operation of historic vehicles, and the work is therefore focused to make this happen.

Operation of HkB 42

LTF tried also to gain operation of HkB 42 this summer. Unfortunately, internal communication failure in AS Oslo Sporveier led to that our application didn't get to the right person before the summer operation plans were completed. Therefore we didn't give preference to this project. HkB 42 has unfortunately been used very little since it was restored for the jubilee in 1998, but we hope to operate it in 2001.

Taking over of plough tramcars

After AS Oslo Sporveier have built new ploughs to the A87 class, the plough tramcars based on SS class tramcars from 1909-13 were discarded. During the last time when they were used, there were two operational cars and one almost operational car.

LTF has taken over 398 (ex. 198, ex. 303, (truck from) ex. 60, ex. KES 196) for preservation. The two other cars (301 and 397) were supposed to be cleaned for important parts and then scrapping the bodies and preserve the trucks. Unfortunately, there wasn't enough time to do this when the tramway division had a serious lack of space and pushed us to get rid of the tramcars. Much of the dismantling was done at Grefsen depot, but after this, the two tramcars were transported to Vinterbro. The rest of the necessary equipment was dismantled here. The bodies will be scrapped during September.

Tramcar no. 398 which is preserved, is moved to Holtet and placed inside the tramshed. This is now the only veteran tramcar on the tramway division's area.

Vinterbro

The activity is also high at Vinterbro. The executive comittee has a strong wish to clear up the area, and bring preserved vehicles under a ceiling. Last year, Tramway Historic Council gave us 250,000 Norwegian crownes to lengthen the tramshed to make the storing conditions a bit better. So far the work is progressing, and the building of the lengthening starts in the beginning of October!
